“Uncials” with Christine Farmer

In preparation for Deirdre Hassed’s workshop Elaborating Uncials in September, this will be an introductory/refresher course in basic slanted pen Uncial. We will use a modernised version of Uncial from the 8th century: The Stonyhurst Gospel as shown in John Woodcock’s A book of Formal Scripts. 

Materials

Your usual gear, including:

A4 layout paper

A few A4 sheets of Mi Tientes or Cartridge paper

Ink and/or gouache

Pencil, ruler, T-square, eraser

A selection of nibs – Speedball, Brause, Tape, Mitchell – your choice

Pilot pen 2.4

Sloped board, if you use one
