“Uncial Script” with Ailsa Fergusson
July 20 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm AEST
Cost: Half day members/non members $20/$25, full day $40/$50
Uncial is an uppercase script commonly used by Latin and Greek scribes between the 4th and 8th centuries, forming a fascinating step in the evolution of the lowercase letters we use today. It is most familiar to many in the form used in The Book of Kells.
On Sunday 20th July – morning session, we will look at a single style of uncial that I enjoy using, with a few major variations of the letter forms. A parallel pen will be the only writing tool needed for this session, along with suitable practice paper.
In the afternoon we will explore text size variations, making a small ‘zine’ style booklet on a better quality paper, starting with A3 size. I will introduce a simple way to make large writing tools for yourself.
Materials:
- parallel pen
- practice paper
- A3 paper, better quality
