SUMMARY:"Collaborative Books Project Day 1" with Robyn Colman
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nCost: Half day members/non members $20/$25\, full day $40/$50 \nCome along for a couple of days of fun making books together\, responding to each other’s prompts\, sharing ideas\, playing with calligraphy\, drawn lettering\, mixed media and collage. \nEach participant will make their own book that responds to the theme of Nature and includes offerings from others in the group. We will use a collaborative writing exercise to come up with the text. \nThe books will have three or five A4 sheets of paper and will be bound with a concertina spine. \nPeople can come to both days to make a book. Or you can come to Day 1 only\, to prepare collaborative sheets to bind at home using your own method. SUMMARY:"Illuminated Capitals" with Gail Wilson
DESCRIPTION:Cost: Half day members/non members $20/$25\, full day $40/$50 \n \nThe word ‘illumination’ means to enlighten\, and refers to the addition of decorations\, often with gold and silver\, in manuscripts. An illuminated letter is an enlarged\, decorated capital letter that traditionally embellishes the beginning of a\nchapter or section in a handwritten manuscript. Lavishly decorated letters marked the beginning of passages and gave visual clues to the context of the page. Full pages of decoration also separated the books into sections.\nMorning Session–\n1. Simple Celtic Knot letter\n2. Pencil Border\n3. Ornamental Design Borders in one colour eg. Blue\, Black and white pencils.\nAfternoon Session–\n4. Use ornamental design to produce a Delft Design Letter (Blue and White or Walnut and white/Black)\n5. Modern Design Letters or Numbers of choice on White\, Black\, or Tan Paper \nMaterials List: \n\nGood quality Smooth Watercolour Paper-at least 200 gsm- eg. Arches. Cut this into A4-4 pages folded once into\nA5 size.\n2B Pencil\, kneadable eraser\, coloured pencils/watercolour pencils or gouache (see below) black charcoal pencil\nGouache – black\, white\, blue\, yellow ochre\, red\nRuler\nTracing paper and Armenian Bole/or transfer paper.\nFine liner brush\, small round brush (small brushes for detail work)\nPalette\nWater container\nPermanent Fineliners – .005/ .03\nFinetec Arabic Gold or any good gold/ metallic paint e.g. Calligraphica crystals.\n\n  \n

DESCRIPTION:  \nCost: Half day members/non members $20/$25\, full day $40/$50 \nThere are many ways to bring a sparkle to your calligraphic work without using the lead based gesso from the medieval monasteries\, or the ghastly glitter that children leave contaminating the carpet. \nIn this workshop\, several of our members will share their favourite techniques with you\, using a wide range of materials. We will also have sample packs of materials for you to add to your tool box\, if needed\, from several studio clearances over the last few years.
