“Italics” with Ailsa Fergusson

Cost: Half day members/non members $20/$25, full day $40/$50

Morning Session:

Italic script class suitable for beginners in this script, or for eliminating any bad habits for those with years of experience.

Materials:

• 3.8mm parallel pen
• practise paper, non bleeding layout paper, A3 if possible
• slope board for writing if you have one
• ruler, pencil
• pointed pen if you have one

Afternoon Session: (There will be a $5 donation for materials supplied by Ailsa)

You will be introduced to various ways to prepare and use the local ochre pigments collected from a nearby beach. This pigment behaves like gouache in all your writing or painting tools. Half the session will be spent making the media and the rest applying it to papers.

Materials:

• plastic sheeting to cover table
• A4 quality papers to use the pigments on
• range of writing/drawing/painting tools
• small cheap paintbrushes for loading pens
• paper towel

If you have any of the following, please bring:

• Chinese ink stone
• small china dishes eg dipping sauce x 3
• small lidded containers to take home ground media x 3
• droppers
• expired plastic business/credit cards, cut into two lengthwise
• double sided tape
